I received a warning that my TiVo is not an Australian TiVo and can't activate it. What do I do?

This warning during activation means that your TiVo was purchased from either an unauthorised local retailer, or purchased overseas and imported for use in Australia. TiVo media devices can only be activated for the country they were purchased in.

If you were under the impression you were purchasing from a reputable local retailer, please contact support@mytivo.com.au and provide your TiVo Service Number, name of the retailer the device was purchased from, date of purchase, and a copy of the receipt (if possible).

TiVo Desktop Troubleshooting FAQs

Why am I getting a 3-43-100 or 43-100 error message?
This usually happens if you haven’t restarted both your PC and your TiVo media device after setting up TiVo Desktop 2.8. Please do this and then try accessing content again.

I can’t see my TiVo media device in TiVo Desktop, or I can’t see my PC in my Now Playing List, or my TiVos can't see each other:
Make sure that your Media Access Key (MAK) is visible on your media device under TiVo Central > Messages and Settings > Account and System information > Media Access Key.

If you are not seeing this, ensure that you’ve enabled the Home Networking Package on your account using your dashboard on the My Account website.

Try forcing a connection through TiVo Central > Messages and Settings > Settings > Network > Connect to the service now

If your PC or router is using a firewall ensure that your settings are not blocking TiVo desktop.

Important: if you have configured more than one subnet on your home network, make sure all your TiVo boxes and your computer are on the same subnet. TiVo units cannot communicate through TiVo Desktop and Multi-room Viewing unless they are on the same network and subnet.

What do I do if I can’t transfer videos or stream content to or from my TiVo?

In TiVo Desktop navigate to Services > TiVo Server Properties and under the Network tab change the Discovery Protocol from Bonjour for Windows to TiVo Beacon.

Check that any security software on your PC is set to allow the following processes used by TiVo Desktop - TiVoNotify.exe, TiVoServer.exe, TiVoTransfer.exe, Bonjour.exe, Beacon.exe, Curl.exe. To do this you will need to alter your trusted application settings within your security software.

NOTE: If you are using Kaspersky Antivirus there is a known issue in which Kaspersky will cause any transfers to cancel once they reach a file size of 2GB (2,048MB). If you are using this security package we recommend disabling it whilst attempting transfers.

Current Known Issues:

Certain Channels/Programs may not transfer, and you may see a Server Busy message. If this occurs you will need to re-start your PC and your TiVo media device.

Some XVID content may playback at an abnormally fast speed.

We are working towards resolving these issues as soon as possible.

NOTE: You may experience playback issues on video content if your PC is not running a high performance CPU and graphics card.

Which network ports and IP addresses do I need open when using my TiVo box?

Discover which ports must be open inside your router so that your TiVo box can access online services. Please be aware that there are many variations of routers, software and settings that are unique to each computer.

Getting Started

The TiVo Service does not require any INBOUND access from teh Internet into your home network but your TiVo box does require some OUTBOUND traffic to reach the internet and the TiVo Service. Typically, the ports listed below are open by default unless you have customised your router settings:

Information you will need:

Model Number and manufacturer of your router

User manual for your router on the manufacturer website

Instructions to access your anti-virus software and firewall

Troubleshooting Port Issues

Troubleshooting port issues may require contacting your Internet Service Provider and/or manufacturers of your networking equipment or software.

If your TiVo box is having issues connecting to your home network, use one of the following procedures to check if required ports or IP addresses are blocked.

Make sure that ports 80 and 8080 (for outbound traffic) are not being blocked by your router, firewall, or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Verify that the following IP addresses are not being blocked by your router, firewall or Internet Service Provider:

208.73.180.0 through 208.73.183.255

204.176.49.0 through 204.176.49.127

206.112.115.0 through 206.112.115.255

If the ports and IP addresses are configured properly on the router and firewall, but your TiVo box is unable to communicate with the TiVo service or another TiVo box, some ports or addresses may be blocked by your Internet Service Provider. Contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance.

Outbound Ports that must be Open

TiVo set top boxes and TiVo Desktop software must be able to access the TiVo service to enable features, access content and perform updates. The TiVo service must be reachable over the Internet from your home network via the following ports (OUTBOUND).

Access your router from your computer and ensure the outbound ports listed below are open. See the user guide for your router if you need assistance.

 TCP port 80

Unrestricted ports within your network

For internal network communication between multiple TiVO boes, TiVo Desktop software and other TiVo applications, the following ports should be unrestricted with your home network.

Access your router from your computer and ensure the ports listed below are unrestricted on your network. See the user guide for your router if you need assistance.

TCP port 37

TCP port 443

TCP port 1413

TCP port 2190

TCP port 4430

TCP port 5222

TCP port 5223

TCP port 5254

TCP port 5354

TCP port 7287-7297

TCP port 8000

TCP ports 8080-8089

TCP port 8101

TCP port 8102

TCP port 8181

TCP port 8200

TCP port 31339

UDP port 37

UDP port 123

UDP port 2190

UDP port 5353

Software based firewalls

If you have a software-based firewall such as Black Ice, norton Internet Security, or McAfee Personal Firewall installed on your PC, it may be necessary to adjust your settings to allow the TiVo server to broadcast the TiVo Desktop beacon signal to your TiVo box. For more information on configuring your firewall, refer to the documentation provided by the firewall manufacturer. If you are using the Microsoft Windows XP Built-in Firewall, your ports will be configured automatically during the installation of TiVo Desktop.

Important: if you configured more than one subnet on your home network, make sure all your TiVo boxes are on the same subnet. TiVo boxes cannot communicate through TiVo Desktop and Multi-room Viewing unless they are on the same network and subnet.

Macintosh computers

In addition to the ports listed above, TiVo Desktop for Macintosh computers requires at least one of the following TCP ports to be open for unrestricted communication within your local network (behind your firewall): 8101, 8102, 8200.

None of the codes for my TV/stereo manufacturer work when I do a code search.

Please note: Only follow the instructions below if you've already tried programming your remote control using the TiVo media device setup and couldn't find the correct remote control code.

To find a code, try the following:

Step 1
Cover the end of the TiVo remote control with your hand, blocking the transmission to your TiVo media device.

Step 2
Do one of the following:

To search for a code to control TV power and volume: hold down the remote's TiVo and TV POWER buttons simultaneously until the red light on the remote control stays on.

To search for a code to control the "Input" button on your TV: hold down the TiVo and TV INPUT buttons simultaneously until the red light on the remote control stays on.

To search for a code to control A/V stereo volume: hold down the TiVo and MUTE buttons simultaneously until the red light on the remote control stays on.

Please note: The red light on your remote will illuminate until the code search is complete.

Step 3
Remove your hand from the end of the TiVo remote control.

Step 4
Enter one of the following codes:

To search TV power and volume codes: enter code 0999.

To search TV input codes: enter code 0999.

To search A/V stereo codes: enter code 1999.

Please note: After you enter the code, the red light will flash once and then remain on.

Step 5
Press CHANNEL UP once every two seconds. This will test hundreds of codes, one by one.
Please note: Do not go any faster than this or you may skip over a code that works.

Step 6
Do one or more of the following:

TV power and volume: if you press CHANNEL UP and your TV turns off, press ENTER to select the code.

TV input: if you press CHANNEL UP and your TV switches inputs, press ENTER to select the code.

A/V stereo: if you press CHANNEL UP and the volume on your stereo is muted, press ENTER to select the code.

Step 7
To test whether the codes work properly, try the following:

TV power and volume: press the TV POWER button on the remote control to test the code.

TV input: press the TV INPUT button on the remote control to test the code.

A/V stereo: press the VOLUME UP and then the VOLUME DOWN buttons on the remote control to test the code.

Step 8
If you cycle through all the codes, the red light on the remote will go off, confirming you have tried all the codes.

Please note: If you went through this process and you do not find your code the first time, you might want to try the process a couple of times to make sure you did not skip over your code by going too fast. If you cannot find a code that will work, your brand of TV or stereo may not currently be supported.
